Giving the fox girls some love

In a dark corner on the top shelf of a cabinet in my parents' house, I found pieces of a long forgotten garage kit I once bought at a comic convention. By the looks of it, and the layer of dust that had built up, it's been there for probably more than a decade.
Once again I realized how much stuff I buy, especially model kits such as Gundams and the like, when under the effects of a Con frenzy. Assuming I don't forget them in some dark and cold corner, like it happened with this one, they simply pile up on my working table, patiently waiting for their turn.

After some mandatory part cleaning, it became obvious that the primer I used back then had reacted with the resin in a very strange way, turning the surface into something textured and no longer smooth. I'm guessing that's probably the reason I shelved it: I was unable to correct that much failure. Until now, that is.
I didn't sandpaper the whole model, because that would have been way too much work, but I did use it here and there, where the surface was really bad and rough, before I started the paint job.

Anyways, many months later, allow me to introduce you to the finished result.
The plinth is an upturned flower pot with a sculpted pillow on top.

Enjoy!

And along came some Terminators

At long last, the 5 tactical Terminators from the Black Reach have been finished as well.
I had to modify them slightly, so that the Red Scorpions decal would fit on their left shoulder pads, but for the rest they're as they come out of the box.
Almost forgot the yellow had stripe :/

Comments and critique are always welcome :)

Enjoy!

Land Raider Prometheus

After a long period of packing boxes, moving, unpacking, I ran into a couple major problems:

  1. I lacked a proper workspace to model and paint, and
  2. I lacked proper showcases to put my models in after unpacking.

Which is why it took such a damn long time for me to actually get anything done, and come back to post here. Not that anyone is following me much, it seems.

Anyway, the Prometheus is finally finished. The sponsons with Heavy Bolters are magnetized, so the can be removed for easier transport, and the hatch with the pintle-mounted multimelta can be removed as well. Sadly, despite me going to all the effort of painting the interior, I had to glue the ramp shut. Main reason for this, was that the ramp wouldn't keep closed and, even when it did, it was a bad fit. It looked horrible, and the frustrating opening and closing all the time made it nearly impossible to paint the hinges, which kept scratching the paint layers off.
I'm hoping that the next Raiders will enjoy a much better fate; and hopefully they will require less effort too. As I believe I already mentioned, in a previous post, the cast for the Raider's extra armor is HORRIBLE.

Enjoy the pics :)

Forge World's new Rhino/Predator reinforced armour kit

So I'm back again.
It's been a while since my last post, and it's mostly due to my moving to a new apartment. It took me a while to set up everything again, and I'm not completely done yet, but since I have started modeling and painting again, I might as well share my first impressions about new Predator/Rhino reinforced armour kit Forge World released last year.

As it usually happens with FW resin kits, the cast quality looks good, but the parts are twisted and warped out of shape. Especially the door parts, which have thin seams on the side, are currently looking the worst, while the track and turret plating really aren't that bad. At least they are whole (not missing any chunks) and bubble-less, so once they've been deburred and cleaned, the shape is nothing some dipping in a bowl of hot water can't fix.
Overall the resing kit is way better than its Land Raider counterpart, which was much worse to work with due to bad casting and general unmatching sizes.

As I intended to use them on my Razorbacks, I pre-assembled the Razorback model to the point where I could glue the armor on, and used the tank as a press-on reshaping bench, literally pressing the hot resing parts onto the tank until their intended shape was restored. Once that was done, everything matched perfectly.

Below is a picture of how the assembly looks, after priming. As you can see, the Razorback is also equipped with a Rhino dozer blade, also from Forge World.

Looking forward to posting more pictures about this model, and the next one coming up (building two of these actually), so stay tuned.
